HANOVER FIREFIGHTERS
The Professional Fire Fighters of Hanover Virginia
  • Outreach Mission

As part of our continuing mission to serve not only our membership, but the greater community, we strive to extend our contact with the public beyond service calls to several local and national organizations.

The Hanover Professional Firefighter’s Association has partnered up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for this terrible disease. Local 4202 participates in the Fill The Boot Campaign during the Labor Day weekend. In 2002 during 4202’s inaugural year, our local raised $4,000.00 for this worthy cause. We are an active participant in the MDA Summer camp which brings local firefighters together with the victims and families of this debilitating disease for a week of activities to raise awareness and spirits.

Local 4202 is also a partner with the Central Virginia Burn Foundation to assist in the treatment and care of child victims of fire. Our Local participates in various functions that help these children with the healing process, to include Skate parties, and Burn Camps.

Local 4202 also supports Relay 4 Life annual Cancer walk

The Hanover Professional Firefighters have also formed a partnership with the Hanover Courthouse Ruritans, who have been extremely supportive of our organization. The Ruritans have provided us with part of their complex in order to hold our meetings and special functions. With out their assistance we would not be the organization we are today

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.

MDA combats neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and support services, and far-reaching professional and public health education. With national headquarters in Tucson, MDA has 120 local offices across the country, sponsors 200 medical clinics and supports more than 250 research projects around the world.

MDA is the nation’s leading nongovernmental funder of scientific research seeking better treatments and cures for the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases in its program. MDA has funded the discovery of the genetic underpinnings of almost all diseases in its program — including the muscular dystrophies, spinal muscular atrophy, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease) and several other neuromuscular diseases — and treatments based on this knowledge are being developed, with support from MDA.

The Association's comprehensive services program includes diagnostic and follow-up medical consultations, flu shots, support groups, MDA summer camps for youngsters, a national medical equipment program, assistance with equipment repairs and modifications, and resource referrals.

Through its national advocacy program, MDA works to make life better for people with muscular dystrophy and related muscle diseases by providing representation in matters of public policy and research advancement, nationally and internationally; and facilitating active involvement in these areas by the people it serves.
